CEDAR LAKE | One of the founders of Cedar Lake will be recognized with an honorary sign at one of the town’s intersections.

The Town Council approved designating a portion of Fairbanks Street at the intersection of Fairbanks and 133rd Avenue as Obadiah Taylor Way.

Fairbanks will retain its official name, but a pole-mounted sign at the intersection will mark its status as an honorary way.

The town of Cedar Lake was settled circa 1836. Obadiah Taylor and his family were among the founding settlers in what was then a small lakefront community.

The town recently began the second phase of a widening project along 133rd Avenue, which includes the Fairbanks intersection.

The Taylor Family Trust, associated with descendants of Obadiah Taylor, donated land for the project. In return, they asked for recognition of their ancestor and family heritage.
