CEDAR LAKE | The new school resource program may end up not only keeping students safe, but keeping them in school.
Kevin Bachinski, middle school assistant principal, and resource officer Lane Linder gave a report on the fledgling program during a recent Hanover Community School Corp. board meeting.
The district received a $19,500 grant to start the program in the this school year. If all goes well, the grant likely will be renewed next fall.
As school resource officer, Linder is concerned with security and student behavior, he said. But he is also working with school officials to identify students at risk.
The effort will focus on at-risk students in their senior year, he said. Because at-risk-behavior and poor grades often go hand-in-hand, Linder hopes to work with such students to increase the likelihood they will graduate.
