MUNSTER | The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and Music Director/Conductor Kirk Muspratt begin the 2013 South Shore Summer Music Festival Friday in Schererville, and plan visits to six communities in all before concluding Aug. 3 at Marquette Park in Gary. Music fans are welcome to arrive early with a picnic or snacks, bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating, and relax and enjoy the free concerts.
“We are proud to be a part of everyone’s summer here along the South Shore. Playing world-class music in a beautiful setting is the highlight of our summer, and we hope it is for you as well,” said Muspratt. “Come share with us the enjoyment and experience of being with your loved ones and neighbors under the stars.”
The concerts will have something for everyone, with the orchestra featuring light classical and patriotic music as well as music from Broadway musicals and movies.

SCHERERVILLE - 7:30 p.m. Friday at Redar Park, Austin Street north of U.S. 30. (Rain location: Lake Central High School, 8400 U.S. 41, St. John)
CEDAR LAKE - 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Park of the Red Cedars, Town Complex Grounds, 7408 Constitution Ave. (Rain location: Hanover Central High School, 10120 W. 133rd Ave.)
GRIFFITH - 7:30 p.m. July 26 at Central Park, 600 N. Broad St. (Rain location: Griffith High School, 600 N. Wiggs St.)
CROWN POINT - 7:30 p.m. July 27 on the lawn at Franciscan Communities, Main Street and Franciscan Drive. (Rain location: Crown Point High School, 1500 S. Main St.)
HAMMOND - 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Wolf Lake Pavilion, Calumet and Sheffield avenues. (Rain location: Calumet College of St. Joseph Athletic Center, 2400 New York Ave.)

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra will host its sixth annual Opening Concert Gala, Cirque de la Symphonie, on Sept. 20 at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, Merrillville. The 2013-14 season of three classical and three pops concerts will run through April. Subscriptions and tickets are available.
