CEDAR LAKE | Two suspects are in custody in connection with the death of a man whose body was found on a road near Cedar Lake Trailer Park on Friday morning.
Police Chief Randall Mayersky described them as “persons of interest.”
Jail records indicate Cedar Lake police arrested two residents, ages 39 and 42, in connection with the incident. Both men reportedly live in the trailer park.
A Lake County prosecutor’s office spokesperson said no charges were expected to be filed Friday as Cedar Lake Police had not called in for an appointment. Police have 48 hours from the time of an arrest to file charges before a suspect must be released.
The body of Robert Lore, 54, who also lived in the trailer park, was found lying in the middle of the road shortly after 4 a.m. according to police.
Lore had lacerations all over his body and no vital signs, police said.
Police said Lore apparently was struck by a vehicle and dragged several feet. The driver who hit him fled the scene. A spokesperson for the Lake County coroner’s office said the cause of death is pending.
Cedar Lake Fire Chief Todd Wilkening said his department is working with police to determine if there is any connection between Lore’s death and a fire at the trailer park, 9100-133rd Place earlier this week.
The fire destroyed one trailer and a storage shed containing a 300 pound propane tank, which exploded. It also damaged two other trailers. The cause is undetermined and under investigation, authorities said.
