GARY — A power outage that impacted Indiana American Water Company's East Chicago pumping station does not require Gary residents to boil their water before consumption, officials said Thursday morning.

LaLosa Burns, spokeswoman for the City of Gary, said only two Gary homes were impacted by the power outage. Burns said a boil order issued Wednesday was precautionary only.

"We thought it would be better to be safe until we received confirmation of the affected area," Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said.

The City of Gary continues to work closely with Indiana American Water to assure the two residences have a safe water supply to their homes, Burns said.
