CROWN POINT | Seven of 11 bodies have been identified since September with the public's help, according to an announcement Wednesday by Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey.
In a news release, Frey thanked the public for assistance in locating family members and providing information on the unclaimed bodies.
The oldest case dated back to 2007, the release stated.
Among those identified was a man who was identified within 24 hours. Some had been missing for several months to a year, according to the release.
Indianapolis forensic anthropologist Steven Nawrock assisted with identifications.
All but one of the seven bodies were claimed by family members.
In the release, Frey said she remained committed to identifying the remaining unclaimed bodies to bring closure to their families.
