•What Is It: The program is one of several Environmental Mitigation Projects that are a part of a consent decree between NIPSCO, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
•Program Objective: Minimize the effects of particulate air emissions and hazardous air pollution in the vicinities of Gary-Hammond, Michigan City, South Bend-Elkhart and Fort Wayne
•What does it do: Provide financial incentives for residential customers who replace, retrofit or upgrade their inefficient, higher polluting wood-burning stove or outdoor boiler with appliances that provide for cleaner burning, lower emissions, and higher energy efficiency.
•How much is the incentive: Residential clients changing out a wood stove or fireplace insert can receive up to $1,500. If you change from wood to a gas unit the incentive can be up to $2,000. Income qualified clients can receive up to $4,000.
•More Incentives: This program also offers incentives for upgrading your gas fired furnace or boiler up to $5,000. Albert the Chimney Sweep does not work on these appliances. Contact your HVAC contractor or search the NIPSCO site above for participating contractors.
