Ambassadors for 4-H earn recognition

CROWN POINT | Lake County 4-H members and their families celebrated the 2013 4-H Achievement Night during the Lake County Fair.

The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the 2013 4-H Royal Ambassadors Charlie Bayne, son of Charles and Laura Bayne, of Cedar Lake, and a nine-year member of the Saddle and Spurs 4-H Club; and Matt Kresich, son of Joe and Susan Kresich, of Griffith, and a nine-year member of the Griffith Grinners 4-H Club. Royal Ambassadors are chosen based on the candidates’ achievement records, their efforts to promote 4-H in the community, and a 10-minute interview with a panel of judges.

The 2013 Citizenship Ambassador Award was presented to Julie Javorka, daughter of Pete and Laura Javorka, of Lansing, Ill., a six-year member of the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club, in recognition of her 4-H achievement, community service, and citizenship skills.

The Leadership Ambassador Award, recognizing the development of leadership skills through the 4-H program, was presented to Anna Marie Gianni, daughter of Rick and Vicky Gianni, of Crown Point, and a nine-year member of the Saddle and Spurs 4-H Club.

These awards were sponsored by Lake County Farm Bureau, Inc., Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, Mary Hulsey, Jean Hulsey, Saddle & Spurs 4-H Club, and Mike and Janet Kraynik.

Annie Kennelly, daughter of Tom and Peggy Kennelly, of Cedar Lake, and a nine-year member of the Hanover Haymakers 4-H Club, was the recipient of the 4-H Livestock Achievement Award sponsored by the Lake County 4-H Auction Committee.

Brandilyn Stockton-Fresso, daughter of Frank Fresso Jr. and Pam Stockton, of Dyer, and a seven-year 4-H member, was awarded the 4-H Horse & Pony Memorial Award sponsored by the Lake County 4-H Horse & Pony Committee.

Mike Klein, son of Matt and Joan Klein, of Dyer, and a nine-year member of the Brunswick Beavers 4-H Club, received the 4-H Dairy Cattle Memorial Award sponsored by the Jack and Holgar Thunboe.

Lake County recipients of the Indiana Farm Bureau Tenure Awards are Garrett Corning of the Shelby Ag 4-H Club and Sarah Reed of the Crown Clovers 4-H Club. These awards were sponsored by the State Women’s Committee of Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. and are based on number of years in the program and number of 4-H projects completed.

Members who completed 10 years in the 4-H program this year were honored: Eli Ceiga, Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club; Sharon Coleman, Happy Wranglers 4-H Club; Garrett Corning, Shelby Ag 4-H Club; Lynn Galliher, Shelby Ag 4-H Club; Marie Ingebretsen, Saddle & Spurs 4-H Club; Alex Kleine, Brunswick Beavers 4-H Club; Austin McNeill, Eagle Creek Up & At’em 4-H Club; Cody Pate, Riley 4-H Club; and Sarah Reed, Crown Clovers 4-H Club.

The winner of the 2014 4-H Handbook Cover Contest is Julie Javorka. Special recognition was also given to Anna Marie Gianni, who was selected as a 2013 Indiana 4-H Horse & Pony Ambassador.
