A Crown Point-based organization called MAAP, for More Advanced Individuals with Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, is a nonprofit that provides information, networking and more for individuals, their families and professionals dealing with autism disorders.
MAAP will host “The Art of Autism,” a cocktail party and art auction, from 6 to 9 p.m. June 27 at The Lighthouse Restaurant, 7501 Constitution Ave., Cedar Lake.

Student groups serve community
Crown Point High School students teamed up with the Crown Point Community Foundation again this year to learn about philanthropy and the importance of community service. The group presented four organizations with $2,400 each, working with administrators and representatives to choose the beneficiaries. CPHS Interact Club selected Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation, National Honor Society tapped St. Jude House, Key Club gave the nod to Meals on Wheels of NWI and the Student Council chose Riley Children Hospital.
Pancakes for breakfast
Enjoy pancakes at the firehouse as the Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary hosts its annual breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 126 N. East St.
Cost at the door is $6 for adults, $4 for youths and senior citizens and free for children 4 and younger.
Tour historic buildings
The Old Sheriff’s House and Jail, 226 S. Main St., is open for tours from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays during the weekly downtown Crown Point Car Cruises and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays during the weekly Farmers Market, which is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on South Main Street.
Cost is $5.
Summer reading program
Registration is still open for the Crown Point Community Library’s summer reading program. Children, teens and adults can enjoy reading books, magazines and e-books, or listening to audio books. Many fun activities are planned for the summer, so stop by the Crown Point library at 122 N. Main St. or the Winfield branch at 10645 Randolph St. to sign up.
Become a benefactor
There is still time through June to join the Author’s Circle at the Crown Point Community Library. Donors are recognized on the plaque by the library’s entrance. As part of last spring’s gift campaign, benefactors who donated at a level of $1,000 or more were named in the Author’s Circle.

Latin Summer deadline
The Crown Point High School Latin Club has extended the registration deadline for Latin Summer until June 17. Children from Crown Point and other area schools who have completed grades 4 through 7 are welcome to attend camp from July 8 to 12 at Crown Point High School, 1500 S. Main St.
