Mayor David Uran and Crown Brewing are hosting the fourth annual Crown Point Oktoberfest from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday on South Main Street in downtown Crown Point.

Learn about "The Planets"

Merrillville Community Planetarium, inside Clifford Pierce Middle School at 199 E. 70th Ave., presents "The Planets" beginning Friday.

From the formation of Earth's solar system to the existence of planets around other stars, this program explores the solar system and reveals what humans currently know about it.

The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 7, 14, 15, 28 and 29. No one will be admitted after the program starts. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children. Seating is limited and should be reserved by calling (219) 650-5486.

Habitat For Humanity hosts Walk/Run

In an effort to build hope one step at a time, Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana is hosting a 5K Walk/Run on Saturday at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. Day of Race registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., the race begins at 9 and awards will be presented at 10:30.

There will be a staggered start for runners, walkers and family participants with children in strollers, wagons, etc.

Snacks, beverages and Habitat for Humanity apparel will be available. Participants can register in advance at www.nwihabitat.org. Call race director Nicole DeMario at (219) 308-3058.

Cupboard nearly bare

St. Clare Health Clinic is seeking donations of nonperishable food items, paper goods and personal care products for its food pantry, which is nearly depleted due to increased demand. This clinic, under the auspices of Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point, provides free primary health care for residents of Northwest Indiana who fall within established income guidelines, are uninsured and are not eligible for government assistance.

Donations may be brought to the clinic, 1121 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Franciscan St. Anthony Health's Prenatal Assistance Program, located at St. Clare, is in need of diapers, formula, baby items and new or gently used clothing, sizes newborn through 3T.
