CROWN POINT | The elders and senior pastor of Bethel Church announced on September 28-29 that they are launching two new locations in the next year, and are expanding Bethel’s Cedar Lake campus with the addition of a new auditorium.
Bethel’s first initiative is to establish a church in the Gary vicinity under the leadership of Ray Dix, who served for 20 years as senior pastor of Berean Fellowship Baptist Church in Gary. (Read Dix’s bio.) The church will be rooted with Bethel’s leadership and doctrine but the preaching, music, and ministries will be tailored to reach the multiethnic population of Gary. A location is yet to be determined.
Bethel is also launching a new church campus at Hobart High School (2211 E 10th St). The brand new facility offers state-of-the-art technology and ample space for kids’ ministries and community fellowship. Bethel’s next steps are to identify staffing, assemble a launch team, and secure a location for midweek ministries close to the high school.
The third initiative is to build a new auditorium for Bethel’s Cedar Lake campus (13620 Wicker Ave), as the current auditorium is near capacity at most weekends. The expansion will allow for additional seating and more space to host midweek ministries.
To support these initiatives, Bethel is asking the congregation to raise $2 million in a fundraiser called Mission Them 2.0. This is the second round of the Mission Them campaign, which was established in 2011 with the aim of multiplying Bethel’s efforts in Northwest Indiana through multiple sites and partnerships. The Cedar Lake campus is Bethel’s first multisite, a product of a merger with the former Community Bible Church. Bethel’s main campus is located at 10202 Broadway in Crown Point.
