CROWN POINT | Former Crown Point City Councilman Paul Bremer was elected to the position of Center Township trustee Saturday morning by a Lake County Republican caucus.
According to Lake County Republican Chairwoman Kim Krull, Bremer took the oath of office immediately following the caucus was sworn in by Indiana state Sen. Sue Landske, R-Cedar Lake, at the Crown Point Community Library.
Bremer's new position comes as part of the trickle down of vacancies in public office created when Rick Niemeyer left the 7th District Lake County Council position when he was elected state representative.
Eldon Strong was selected to fill Niemeyer's vacant post, opening his Center Township trustee's seat.
Bremer served as a Crown Point city councilman for 25 years, ending his run in 2007. He currently holds an appointed position on the city's Historic Preservation Commission.
Former St. John Township Trustee Jim McShane and Center Township Advisory Board member Kate Webster also were seeking the vacant Center Township post.
