Students in the spotlight

Congratulations to Crown Point High School sophomore Alexandra Baloski for winning the Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest sponsored by the Lake County Substance Abuse Council.

Also, congratulations to Matt Lippy, a Crown Point High School senior who is one of only 16,000 students nationwide who is in semifinalist competition for a National Merit Scholarship. More than 1.5 million students enter the competition.

Lippy is eligible for one of 8,300 National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2014.

Jurors on stage

Tickets are on sale for Crown Point High School's fall play, "Twelve Angry Men," under the direction of Kit Degenhart.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 15, 16, 22 and 23 in the high school auditorium at 1500 S. Main St.

All seats are reserved. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. For reservations, call (219) 663-4885, ext. 11604 or visit www.cphstheatre.com. Also, the box office is open from 2:40 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

"Twelve Angry Men" is a story of a 19-year-old on trial for murdering his father. What looks like an open and shut case becomes something more when one of the jurors opens the eyes of others to the facts.

Seeking vendors

The Crown Point Mayor’s Office of Special Events is looking for vendors for the annual Crown Point Winter Market, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 30 on the downtown courthouse lawn.
