CROWN POINT | Crown Point officials have worked out details of a proposal to require businesses to register with the city.
Registration would be free, with a penalty set for businesses failing to register by a deadline, City Council ordinance committee members proposed. No penalty amount was decided.
Registrations would be tracked by the Planning and Building Department with input from the Clerk-Treasurer's office, committee members said.
The committee proposed a start-up date of March 1, pending approval by the full City Council.
A draft ordinance requiring business registration was to be prepared for the City Council November meeting.
Crown Point officials last considered requiring business licensing in 2008, but the proposal never advanced.
