CROWN POINT | Family members of a young Crown Point man killed during an alleged drunken driving incident plan to discuss the case Tuesday at their home.
According to the announcement by family attorney Patrick Salvi, Phillip Briner, then 21, was driving home from his job in Chicago when his pickup was struck on Nov. 10 on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 95th Street.
"This is a horrific accident that could have been prevented," Salvi stated in the announcement.
A civil wrongful death lawsuit was filed more than a month ago in Cook County, court records show.
The lawsuit alleges the driver of the vehicle that struck Briner's pickup was under the influence of alcohol served at a tavern named in the lawsuit.
"Restaurants and bars have a responsibility to not overserve customers," Salvi stated.
