Officials from Merrillville and Crown Point will team up again this year to deliver an annual State of the Region address.
The event planned for 11 a.m. March 8 at the Merrillville Town Hall will feature both civic and school leaders from the two neighboring communities.
"It's a more advantageous way to get the information out and to share it with the business community and the overall public,"said Keith Stevens, Crown Point chief of staff.
Community leaders broke with past practice to deliver a regional outlook after the 2010 merger of the Crown Point and Merrillville chambers of commerce into the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Before that, the Crown Point mayor gave an annual State of the City speech at a City Council meeting, and Merrillville school and town officials gave a similar talk to the then-Merrillville Chamber of Commerce.
The communities' interconnectedness brought them together.
Children living in some Crown Point neighborhoods attend Merrillville schools, and the two municipalities share in regional road and other projects, Merrillville Town Councilman Shawn Pettit said.
"It's important that we communicate and know what's going on in each other's communities.
The talks highlight the previous year's accomplishments and provide an outlook for the future.
