KENTLAND | A Crown Point woman was injured in a crash Thursday at the intersection of U.S. 41 and U.S. 24, the Newton County Sheriff's Office said.
The crash happened at 2:20 p.m. as Sophia Toporski, 22, drove past a red light and crashed into a semitrailer, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. The impact of the crash caused Toporski's car to become pinned under the semitrailer.
The Kentland Fire Department extricated Toporski from the car, and she was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill., according to the release. The Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that it did not have an update on Toporski's condition.
Deputies said dense fog in the area is believed to have contributed to the crash.
The driver of the semitrailer, Christopher Pierce, 32, of Nokomis, Ill., was not injured, police said.
