CROWN POINT | City officials will travel to a spring shopping center convention for a sixth straight year.

Funding of up to $10,000 was approved by the Redevelopment Commission to pay for city participation in the 2013 Global Retail Real Estate Convention on May 19 to 22 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The $10,000 covers costs of a hotel stay and other expenses, including for shipping city promotional materials to the event, where municipalities are able to market their communities to retail firms looking to branch out.

A core group expects to make the trip this year, including Mayor David Uran, Chief of Staff Keith Stevens, Redevelopment Commission Chairman Brad Bosse, and Diana Bosse, special events administrator.

Additional funding of up to $1,000 per person was approved should other city officials wish to attend.

Members of the Uran administration have attended the event each year since 2008.

Officials headed to the 2012 convention with a list of what the city has to offer, including a recently opened highway interchange on 109th Avenue at Interstate 65, with abundant land for development nearby and a growing, city-owned sports complex east of the interchange.

The convention offers opportunities for networking, deal making and education, according to the event website.
