CROWN POINT | Police said a 19-year-old Crown Point man was seen trying to enter a home from a back patio door and then was spotted getting into two separate parked vehicles nearby.
Juan Coronado has been charged with criminal trespassing, unauthorized entry of a vehicle and resisting law enforcement in connection with the incidents, Crown Point police said in a prepared release.
Coronado was arrested after a resident in the 1400 block of West 97th Avenue reported a suspect on the deck in his backyard trying to open the patio door just after 1 a.m. Sept. 17. The suspect then was seen entering a vehicle parked nearby, police said.
The suspect was spotted in a second nearby vehicle by police called to the scene, but ran from the location when he saw the officers, police said.
Police with help from police K-9 Buddy found the suspect hiding under bushes several blocks away. Coronado was taken into custody, police said.
Property taken from the parked vehicles all was recovered, police said.
Chief Pete Land said officers had been extra vigilant in patrolling neighborhood areas after other recent vehicle break-ins.
