CROWN POINT | The city's storm damage cleanup is expected to take two to three weeks to complete, said Jay Olson, director of public works.

“We have three chippers running 12-hour days, including Saturdays,” Olson said. “We are going street by street starting with the hardest-hit areas between Joliet and North streets.”

Olson asked for residents’ patience during the cleanup and stressed it is not necessary to call the Public Works Department to get branches picked up.

Olson said if homeowners pay someone to cut down trees, the contractor is responsible for hauling them away. He said it is homeowners’ responsibility to cut up and move branches that are not from trees on city easements.

Olson said branches should be placed in the easement, all facing the same direction, and logs should be placed in a separate pile.

Cleanup is complete in the center section of the city, he said.
