Sixteen-year-old Matthew Soper died Saturday night in an accident while riding a dirt bike in Leroy, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The Crown Point teen was riding a dirt bike with three other juveniles about 6:45 p.m. when he went airborne and landed on a fence post, officials said in a release. Soper was transported to Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Crown Point, where he later died of severe internal injuries.

None of the other juveniles was injured in the accident.

Officials said Soper was unfamiliar with the property where he was riding the dirt bike.

Indiana conservation officers are investigating the accident with assistance from the Lake County Sheriff's Department, Crown Point Police Department and the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire and EMS.
