CROWN POINT | Mayor David Uran’s Office of Special Events announces that the Car Cruise is moving for the first two weeks of August. The weekly Car Cruise held Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 is moving to the Beacon Hill Plaza on Broadway.
The DJ services provided by Wayne Para of Five Star DJ are being sponsored by Dave Hirata of Hirata’s Lowell Body Shop, Lowell Automotive and Hammer’d Restos & Customs. Hirata is the son of Kenny Hirata, 2013 Inductee to the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
Kenny Hirata began his love for racing with his first car a 1942 Mercury in which he began street racing. In 1958 he stepped up the dragster ranks and in 1961 met his racing partner Phil Hobbs. In 1963 after recovering from a serious accident that almost claimed their lives, Kenny, Phil and new member of the team Bobby Vodnik captured the Top Eliminator win at the 1963 NHRA US. National in Indianapolis.
Kenny Hirata continues to stay involved at Lowell auto body and supports his son Dave as he now continues in his father’s footsteps drag racing.
