Clinic raises funds
Smith Animal Clinic staff, family and friends came together as Team Smith, walking as a team during a recent Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville.
They received recognition during the opening ceremony for raising such a large amount as a small business participating for the first year. Walk pledges and additional monies raise during a silent auction at their client appreciation event totaled more than $8,000.
Winter Market vendors
The Crown Point Mayor’s Office of Special Events is looking for craft vendors for the Winter Market, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 24 at St. Matthias Church, 101 W. Burrell Drive, Crown Point.
The Winter Market offers shopping for holiday crafts, custom gift baskets, jewelry, homemade items, baked goods, seasonal coffees, Christmas trees and more. For information on how to rent a 10-by-10-foot booth space, call (219) 662-3290.
Opportunity Enterprises is one of 17 local nonprofits to benefit from the Porter County Community Foundation’s upcoming GIVE Day, a one-day giving holiday which will take place on Nov. 8, beginning at 12:01a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m.
On this one day only, gifts made to Opportunity Enterprises as part of GIVE Day will apply for matching funds from a pool of more than $50,000 contributed by generous sponsors through the Porter County Community Foundation.
Donations made to Opportunity Enterprise as part of this event will support the construction of an integrated apartment building which includes fully handicapped-accessible apartments at its lakeside property.
Donors can give online at portercountygiveday.org, or drop off checks in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8 at The Times office, 1111 Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso. Only gifts received Nov. 8 through GIVE Day will qualify for matching funds.
