Beginning at 2 p.m. today with a ribbon cutting ceremony, the Crown Point Community Library will celebrate its grand opening at 122 N. Main St.

The library will be closed for normal business so everyone will be able to enjoy the grand opening activities. Beginning at 2:30 p.m. guests will enjoy a Ronald McDonald Magic Show, face painting, balloon animals, a caricature artist, refreshments and more.

Visit Haunted House

There is still time to enjoy the Forgotten 2012 Haunted House from 7 to 11 p.m. today in the Old Lake County Sheriff’s House, 226 S. Main St., Crown Point. Tickets are $10.

Make it a safe night

Halloween Trick or Treating will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in Crown Point on Wednesday. If you are out driving, watch for all the little monsters and ghosts prowling the streets.

Parents, remember that every child should wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Also, check all candy once at home before the children eat it.

Artwork displayed

Congratulations to Jerry Ross Elementary School students who had art work displayed at Crown Point Community School Corp. Central Office.

Third-grade artists are Emma Nelson, Leah Oakes, Kerry Garrett, Will Condes, Jax Hedrickson, Anabella Olenik, Connoe Kennedy, Eva Pycraft, Isaac Holman and Joey Perez. Fourth-grade artists are Brooke Ferkull, Alyssa Hoover, Anna Holloway, Ben Smith, Clay Wingall, Dominic Witte, Maggie Server and Daniel Stepp. Representing fifth-graders are Anianna Bousono, Caleb Nickerson, George Tadros, Logan Clark, Amrando Bracco, Marcia Keilman, Emily Erdelac, Justin Mayer, Brooke Aneston, Zoie Rettig, Bree Loredo, Alex Stinnett, Morganne Marnnio, Paige Hein, Martin Marquez, Katy Smith, Rylee Garza, Valtierra and Taylor Wheatley.

Top times

Jerry Ross students are working on their football skills in gym this month. Posting the fastest times for the football agility sprint: Makeayla Neal, Nathan Woodrick, Terence Echols, Adriel Ramirez, Anna Holloway, Coooper Withrow, Savannah White, Donaovan Huffine and Zach Engle.

Bag weaving and tours

The Old Homestead, the oldest home in Lake County, will be open for tours from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at 227 S. Court St.

Bag weaving will be demonstrated. A loom will be set up for visitors who want try weaving a bag.

Fish and more

St. John's United Church of Christ will have an all-you-can-eat Fish Fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The menu includes Alaskan Pollack, pork tenderloin, parsley potatoes, cole slaw, homemade desserts and beverages.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and younger. There is also a drive-thru and carryout service. Call (219) 663-1608.

Scholarship offered

If you are pursuing a degree or certification in the auto body repair industry, Liss Car Star is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a Crown Point, Lowell, Cedar Lake or St. John resident. Administered by the Crown Point Community Foundation, call (219) 662-7252. Applications must be postmarked by Nov. 16.
