CROWN POINT | A Chicago man on Friday admitted breaking into a Crown Point man's home to rob him of $8,000 owed to another defendant in the case.
Ralph Gabriel, 47, pleaded guilty Friday to burglary in exchange for the state dismissing charges of robbery, criminal confinement, attempted aggravated battery, battery and strangulation.
He faces a sentence of six to 17 years in prison when sentenced Oct. 11.
According to the plea deal, the victim agreed to pay the other defendant a large sum of money in installments for helping set up a relationship with a woman.
When the victim failed to make the final payment, Gabriel and the other defendant broke into the Crown Point man's home to look for money. Gabriel admitted to beating and strangling the man, who suffered a broken eye socket, broken rib and collapsed lung.
