CROWN POINT | Goodfellow Coin Club recently donated 31 coin reference books with a purchase price of $600 to the Lake County Public Library in Merrillville.
A subsidy program sponsored by the Central States Numismatic Society to which the Goodfellow Club belongs assisted with the purchase and donation. CSNS is comprised of coin clubs, individuals and institutions in Midwestern states.
A committee was formed for the donation and was chaired by Dan McDowell, secretary/treasurer of the Goodfellows. The committee developed a preliminary wish list of books that were purchased from Northern Illinois Coin & Stamp at the Illinois Numismatic Association’s 53rd Coin and Currency show in Tinley Park, Ill.
Book topics include U.S. coins and currency, Canadian coins, coin grading, and reference books on specific coin types and varieties.
The Goodfellow Club, which meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Sportsmen Club in Crown Point, appreciated CSNS’s subsidy and is pleased to assist the community in increasing the knowledge of coin collecting.
