CROWN POINT | “Good parents give their children roots and wings. Roots to know where home is, wings to fly away and exercise what’s been taught them,” Jonas Salk said.
From that philosophy, Crown Point High School annually hosts a reception to honor the top graduates, their parents and their most influential teachers.
The school administrators and superintendent presented these exceptional students with their presentation of honor and gold cords to wear at graduation on June 11.
“It feels so great to get recognition for our hard work that we’ve put forth throughout high school,” senior Ashley Jones said.
In previous years, the Roots and Wings ceremony was held only for the top ten students of the class. “This year we wanted to recognize not only the top ten students, but top ten percent of students as well,” sponsor Karen Rodd said. To keep some past traditions, the top twelve students presented a speech for their teacher of choice, in addition to having them in attendance of the ceremony as their guest of honor.
Beginning as freshmen, these Honorees focused ruthlessly on their academics and grade point averages.
“Start as early as you can so you can be in the right mind set,” senior Nicholas Kujawski said. “It’s definitely worth it.”
The honored students include: Joshua Allen, Cassandra Bartlett, Samuel Beishuizen, Zachary Bisel, Hayley Bordui, Lucia Bracco, Katherine Burrell, Megan Cantu, Cole Cartwright, Carlye Colby, Valedictorian Brandi Collins, Mariel Cuellar, Melissa Davis, Madison DeGoey, Salutatorian Christopher Dietrich, Abigail Eineman, Abigail Elston, Courtney Farrell, Nicolas Garcia-Vicente, Joseph Gawor, Molly Grace, Jacob Hazi, Tyler Hendrickson, Kelsey Hopkins, Nicholas Huls, Ashley Jones, Alexandra Jostes, Rayne Kim, Samantha Konicki, Nicholas Kujawski, Nicholas Langbehn, Emily Langston, Kostantinos Leontaras, Miranda MacFarlane, Mikayla Marcinkowski, Rachel Marszewski, Bridgette McCormick, Karlie McCullough, Danielle Metzeus, Kristina Mihajlovic, Kendall Mores, Amanda Pavot, Kyle Przyborski, Nina Rettig, Amanda Rider, Jaime Roche, Scot Sawa, Joshua Schuljak, Claire Scibbe, Ahmed Shaaban, Hanan Shaheen, Rachel Steiger, Liberty Stratton, Kathryn Szymanski, Blagojce Trimoski and Julietta Wright.
