CROWN POINT | Once again, the Business Professionals of America chapter at Crown Point High School has qualified a large contingent to compete March 10 through 12 at the BPA State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis.
On Jan. 12, the Crown Point BPA 'bull dogged" its way through District Leadership Conference competition at Lake Central High School, where they competed against other high school students in a number of business events. Students with the top scores in each event will progress to the state leadership competition, where more than 2,000 BPA members will compete.
The mission of Business Professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, academic, citizenship, and technological skills, explained Crown Point BPA adviser Mary Bachnak.
“This year, we had a diverse group of events and everyone performed at their best. Whether they qualified for the state competition or not, it is a terrific learning experience for everyone,” Bachnak said.
Qualifying CPHS students are: Hayley Bordui, Fundamental Accounting; Sam Beishuizen, Legal Office Procedures; Zoie Matthews, Michael Hillyard, Steven Medina and Joe Ising, Economic Research Project Team; Sarah Reed, Human Resource Management; Shelby Kiger, Alicia Perez, Nick Zaberdac, Global Marketing Team; Alicia Perez, Presentation Management Individual; Caroline Doolin, George Mirabella, Andre Hatami, Small Business management Team; and Rhythm Dhillon, Kathy Cacovski and Christina Tran, Presentation Management Team.
Other participants included Vanessa Haro, Extemporaneous Speech and Interview Skills; and Steven Medina, Prepared Speech.
Students are seeking sponsors to raise the $250 each needs for the State Leadership Conference.
