Crown Point Mayor David Uran’s Office of Special Events welcomes the 2014 season of the annual Car Cruise from 4 to 8 p.m. every Thursday night, today through Sept. 25th on the downtown square.

Attendees should arrive no earlier than 4 p.m. to begin setting up as the square is transformed back to the cool era of hot rods and muscle cars while oldies music fills the air. The family-friendly event is open to the public and car enthusiasts alike. All classic cars are welcome.

Five Star DJ is being sponsored by Mike Adams, The Hot Dog Guy. For more information or to volunteer, contact Diana Bosse, Special Events director, at (219) 662-3240 or dbosse@crownpoint.in.gov.

Trip to museum

The Friends of the Crown Point Library have organized a bus trip to the Chicago Field Museum on June 2. The cost is $40 and includes the transportation and an All-Access Pass to the museum.

The pass allows entry to "The Machine Inside: Biomechanics," "Opening the Vaults: Wonders of the 1893 World’s Fair,"  "Titans of the Ice Age 3D," "Underground Adventure" and all the permanent exhibitions like dinosaur Sue and Inside Ancient Egypt.

The bus will depart from the Crown Point Sports Complex, 1212 E. North St., promptly at 9 a.m.; boarding will begin at 8:45. The bus will leave the museum at 3 p.m. to return. Lunch is not included, but there are two dining options available at the museum or bring a sack lunch.

Tickets can be purchased at the Circulation Desk and checks should be made out to "Friends of the Crown Point Library." Refunds will not be granted after May 26. The Friends of the Crown Point Library are funding  a portion of each museum pass to make this a more  affordable trip.

Looking to Go Green?

South Shore Clean Cities is looking for six governmental fleets in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties to participate in its Green Fleet Program. South Shore Clean Cities and the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission want to help the communities mitigate barriers to adopting alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles, and create policies that support petroleum and vehicle emission reductions.

The goal of the program is to significantly improve the environmental performance of business and government vehicle fleets. Applications are being accepted through May 30. For more information, call (219) 644-3690.
