Today and Aug. 8, the weekly Crown Point Car Cruise is moving from the downtown square to Beacon Hill Plaza at 109th and Broadway, due to the Lake County Fair.

Kids cooking at market
The Crown Point Parks and Recreation and Special Events departments are offering a new program this month at the Crown Point Farmers Market.
A four-week Kids Cooking Class will begin Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to noon, and continue Aug. 17, 24 and 31, instructed by Chefs Billie Ross and Jason Delgado.
The cost for the four-week program is $20 per child, and includes program T-shirt and cooking supplies. Possible projects include, but are not limited to, fresh fruit parfait, fruit kabobs, tomato bruschetta, cucumber sandwiches and salted caramel strawberries.
The Farmers Market takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays on South Main Street, just south of the downtown square.

Life Line Screening will perform a day of preventive health screenings at Towne Centre Retirement Community, 7250 Arthur Blvd., Merrillville, on Aug. 12.
The tests look for signs of disease that can lead to stroke, heart attack or a fracture. Life Line Screening scans for potential problems related to blocked arteries, abdominal aortic aneurysms, hardening of the arteries in the legs, and a bone density screening.
The cost for the Wellness Package is $149. Appointments are limited, so register at (800) 690-0323 and receive a $10 discount.
Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care, 140 E. 107th Ave., Crown Point, has changed the date of its Apartment Showcase to 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 22. Attendees will get a sneak peak at how construction is proceeding and enjoy refreshments and prizes.

Boy Scouts collect for garage sale
Crown Point Boy Scout Troop 45 is seeking donations for its annual garage sale that will take place on Sept. 14.
They are seeking furniture, small appliances, clothes, dishes, toys, books and housewares. Items may be dropped off at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. Main St., Crown Point from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday evenings and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday mornings.
