CROWN POINT | Firefighters had to cut at least one person out of a vehicle after a serious crash late Saturday afternoon.

The two-vehicle accident took place about 4:17 p.m. near the intersection of 113th Avenue and Broadway, according to the Crown Point Police Department. One injured person had to be airlifted by Medevac helicopter to an unknown hospital, said Assistant Police Chief James Janda.

EMS personnel from Schererville and Lakes of the Four Seasons were called to back up Crown Point first responders because of the seriousness of the crash and the injuries.

The names, ages and number of victims were not immediately known.

Police had to shut down the roads around the crash site for a few hours Saturday evening while the Crown Point Police Department's Serious Crash Response Team investigated.
