CROWN POINT | The Crown Point Fire Department received a $3,203 grant from a division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
DNR staff members review grant applications and select recipients on the basis of population density, acres of public wildlands protected, wildland fire reporting to DNR Fire Control Headquarters and other parameters, with focus toward protecting the state's wildlands.
The grants, through the Division of Forestry's Fire Control Headquarters and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, may be used for training, installation of dry hydrants or to buy necessary firefighting equipment and personal protective gear.
Crown Point will use its award for dry hydrants.
More than $242,000 in volunteer fire assistance grants were awarded to rural and volunteer fire departments from 39 Indiana counties.
