CROWN POINT | On October 26, Inspiration Fitness, a 5,000 sq. ft. private training facility, hosted a charity work out to benefit the Pink Ribbon Society. They raised $1,100 on a Saturday morning in honor of one of their members, Mary Wright.
On September 9, 2011, Mary Wright’s doctor told her she had breast cancer. Nine years prior she had watched as her Mom lost her own battle with this disease. Mary understood immediately the seriousness of her diagnosis. Mary explains, “When you’re facing your own mortality you very simply have two choices. You can choose to give up and let cancer steal your future or you can fight.
I chose to fight. After all, I had high school graduations, college graduations, and weddings to attend. My youngest daughter, Julianne was only 18. I couldn’t imagine not being there for my baby girl or not being there for any of my children. And then there was my husband Ed. Our plan was always to grow old together. We’d then retire from our jobs, travel and spoil our grandchildren to pieces. After months of surgeries, chemotherapy, hair loss, needles upon needles, various medications, nausea and doctor’s appointments, I was declared cancer free.”
The Pink Ribbon Society services men and women in Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton Counties in Northwest Indiana. Pink Ribbon projects include the wig reimbursement program, the State of Indiana’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Bundles of Hope and educational programs. Angela Ramos says, “I’m really excited to start a series of charity workouts at Inspiration Fitness. I feel fortunate to be running a successful business in today’s economy. With that, I’d like to be able to give back. Inspiration Fitness will be doing a variety of fundraisers throughout this year and we’re always interested in finding new partners. I chose to start with the Pink Ribbon Society because of Mary Wright’s inspiring story and this organization means a lot to her.”
