CROWN POINT | A Crown Point man has been charged in connection with a burglary at a relative's home on Saturday.
Jason M. Roberts, 31, was charged Thursday by the Lake County prosecutor's office with burglary, Crown Point police said in a release.
Police were called to the home in the 300 block of North Park Street just after 5 p.m. when witnesses reported seeing a suspect come out of the house and place something in a vehicle, police said.
Police arrived to find the back door broken in. Roberts returned to the location while police were investigating and at first said he was not involved in the apparent break-in, police said.
An item reported stolen from the house was found in Roberts' car, police said. Roberts then admitted to burglarizing the house and stealing a container of money, police said.
Roberts is a relative of the homeowner, police said. He was placed in the Lake County jail.
