CROWN POINT | The Board of Public Works and Safety approved an updated Police Department policy governing the impounding and towing of vehicles.

Revisions clarify issues involving the release of towed vehicles and when the releases should be filled out and by whom, Chief Pete Land said.

Some of the procedures had not previously been written into the policy, Land said.

The board also approved a five-year extension of the city's contract with the tow firm Midnight Blue. The board reaffirmed specifications of the towing contract.  Any established towing business also can apply to be under contract with the city, officials said.
