CROWN POINT | Crown Point High School's Latin Club Certamen teams competed Feb. 15 in the Jeopardy-like competition at the Indiana Certamen Invitational at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
Four schools from around the state brought 16 teams to compete vie for honors. Crown Point entered six teams in the competition: two at the Novice level, two at the Intermediate level, and two at the Advanced level. Each team advanced to the final rounds in itsa division, with two Hub City teams returning home with first-place trophies.
Overall, the CPHS Novice teams placed second and third, while both the the Intermediate and Advanced squads finished first and second.
In the Novice division, the team of Casey Akers and captain Taylen Hovanec placed second, while the team of Claire Dosen, Skylar Sheck, and captain Emma Werkowski finished in third place.
In the Intermediate division, the team of Alex Baloski, captain Tyler Jeremiah, and Amber Moon brought home the first-place trophy, while the team of captain Emily Fender and Kelly Merrill placed second.
In the Advanced division, captain Thomas Cooper, Nick Hanlon, Josh Mazur, and Andie Wahlberg captured the first-place trophy, while Renee Brigham, Brennen Chaussey, captain Michael Keller and Anna Werkowski took second.
The next Certamen competitions will be at the Hoosier Certamen Invitational in Noblesville on March 8 and the Indiana Junior Classical League State Convention at Indiana University in Bloomington on March 14-15.
