CROWN POINT | Emergency sewer repairs were authorized Wednesday by the Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety on a section of sewer in an alley north of the intersection of Merrillville Road and East Porter Street.
Officials said the aging section of sewer broke about 10 days ago. Sewage backed up into some surrounding homes as a result, officials said.
A new sewer line will be installed along the length of the alley, city officials. No cost estimate had been determined for the work, being done by Grimmer Construction Co.
The emergency nature of the repair could qualify it for funding through the low-interest state revolving loan fund, city officials said.
The work required the closure of a short section of Merrillville Road, between Goldsborough and Monitor streets. The work is expected to be completed by the weekend.
