Gospel Fest will be held today at 6 p.m. on the east side of the Old Lake Court House on the downtown square in Crown Point.

Bring blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic dinner to enjoy this free, family-friendly event hosted by the Lake Court House Foundation. We are lucky that we have such a fine historic building to enjoy.

Shop the Farmers Market

Shop at the Crown Point Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through September.

The market is set up on South Main Street between Joliet and Walnut streets. Take a stroll and enjoy shopping for fresh fruit, plants and flowers, baked goods, cheeses, jams, coffee and much more. Two of the vendors accept WIC and are ADA friendly.

While downtown, take a tour of the Old Sheriff’s House and Jail at 226 S. Main St. and see the latest restoration projects. Tours are offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $5.

Golfing a hit

The Crown Point Community Library appreciates all of its sponsors, participants and volunteers who helped make the library's first miniature golf outing a huge success. More than 250 adults and children enjoyed playing golf among the books.

Proceeds will support adult and children's programs at both the Crown Point library and the Winfield branch.

Author offers trip tips

Meet and listen to author Terri Smith at 10 a.m. Friday at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St.

Smith will discuss and sign her latest book, "Off the Beaten Page: The Best Trips for Lit Lovers, Book Clubs and Girls on Getaways." Participants will learn how to plan a successful group getaway and much more. Her book offers information and itineraries for 15 U.S. destinations.

Garden walk

Tour some beautiful gardens right here in Crown Point as the Crown Point Garden Walk, hosted by the Crown Point Garden Club, returns this year. The walk will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 on the day of the walk. Advance tickets are available at The Artful Garden and Hubinger Landscaping, both in Crown Point, and Leo’s Fee and Garden Center, Martin Landscaping and Alsip Home & Nursery, all in Cedar Lake.

Give blood

St. John United Church of Christ, 1288 S. Indiana Ave., Crown Point, will host a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday. Call (219) 663-1608 for more information.
