Hometown Happenings presents Family Fright Night on at 5:30 p.m. Saturday inside the covered bridge at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 Court St., Crown Point.
Storyteller Grant Fitch will perform three separate shows, “Ghosts & Giggles” for young children, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe.”
Advance tickets for each show are $8 for all ages, available online at HometownHappenings.net or at Carriage Court Pizza, 211 S. East St., Crown Point. Tickets at the event are $12.
Included in the ticket price are hay wagon rides and an outdoor movie screening of the horror film classic “Nosferatu.” Families may also take part in a Pumpkin Treasure Hunt. Find a hidden pumpkin and redeem it for a gift card to a participating local business. Concessions will be available for purchase.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit restoration efforts for the historic covered bridge.
Prayer service and blessing
Join local church leaders in giving thanks and celebrating the opening of the new Bickford of Crown Point Branch, 140 E. 107th Ave., at 10 a.m. Friday.
Special guests include Dr. Ron Johnson of Living Stones Fellowship, Pastor Robert Shaw of Christ Presbyterian Church and Bishop Dale Melczek of the Diocese of Gary. This event is open to all churches, all faiths, and members of the community.

New income tax
Michael Griffin, clerk-treasurer for the Town of Highland, is presenting “Everything You Wanted To Know About the Local Tax And Were Afraid to Ask” at the Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce monthly membership luncheon Tuesday at The Patrician Banquet Center, 410 E. U.S. 30, Schererville.
Chamber 101 begins at 10:30 a.m., registration starts at 11:15 and lunch will be served at noon, with Griffin to speak during the meal to educate attendees on how the tax is going to be implemented.

Generate is presenting a free marketing workshop at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St.
