Are you looking for something fun to do? Would you like to get out and meet people? Whether you are young or a senior citizen, there is plenty that you can do to help in our community.

Find out how to get involved Saturday at the "Spring into Action" Volunteer Fair in the cafeteria of Crown Point High School, 1500 S. Main St. Sponsored by the Crown Point Community Foundation, more than 60 nonprofit organizations looking for help will man information booths from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

While some organizations are looking for weekly or monthly volunteers, others are looking for one-day or seasonal help. This is also a great way for high school students to make contacts to earn their service hours toward graduation.

For more information visit or call the foundation at (219) 662-7252.

Shavees lining up

Speaking of volunteers, the St. Baldrick’s Day event will take place again this year on St. Patrick’s Day. Participants, or “shavees,” work hard to raise the highest amount of donations for finding cures for childhood cancer.

Then, from noon to 4 p.m. March 17 in the small bay at the Crown Point Fire Station, join the crowd to watch these men and women have their heads shaved in solidarity with kids battling cancer.

During the Crown Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade that evening, there will be a float accepting donations along the parade route. To become a “shavee,” contact Timothy A. Martin at (219) 306-1218 or
