CROWN POINT | A commercial starring the Main Street boutique Amy Laurie's and its owners is first to be featured on local cable access channels as part of Crown Point's Shop Local campaign.
The 10-minute Amy Laurie's spot started airing late last month on channels ATT U-Verse 99 and Comcast 26, said Adam Graper, director of the city's media and information technology department.
The spot airs at random times, and no schedule is available, Graper said.
A second vignette, this one featuring Geppetto's Toys and Togs, will be shown in coming weeks, Graper said.
The stores were the first to be highlighted in the promotional campaign created in a partnership between the city and the Crown Point High School Technical Communications course.
The campaign is aimed at supporting locally owned and run businesses.
Another three commercial spots are planned before the school year ends, said Chris Gloff, Technical Communications instruction and project director.
Featured will be Eclips Family Hair Salon, Tiffany's Tea Room & Cafe and What's the Scoop, he said.
Technical Communications students who scripted, filmed and edited the first two commercials under Gloff's direction will continue their work on the final three.
"We'll be wiser and better," after the first two shoots, Gloff said.
Nancy Goodwin, co-owner with Judy Kaye of Amy Laurie's Eclectic Boutique, said she and her partner are happy with the video highlighting the store's line of women's clothing and accessories.
"We really liked the way it was edited," Goodwin said. "They really did an excellent job."
The completed videos are expected to be played starting soon on the city website, www.crownpoint.in.gov, Graper said.
The Shop Local campaign is expected to continue as shop owners sign on to participate. At least seven had applied by early this year.
Plans are to combine five or six of the vignettes into reels lasting about 60 minutes each.
