June seems like a long way off, but to look ahead, why not form a team for the fight against cancer. The Southlake Relay for Life fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. June 7 the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Crown Point. Teams will walk around the fairgrounds throughout the night after raising funds to help raise awareness and fight against cancer.

Student journalists honored
Congratulations to Crown Point High School journalism students Abby Elston and Sam Beishuizen. They were selected to represent the Top Ten student journalists of the year at the Indiana Statehouse.

Also, congratulations to Colonel Wheeler Middle School dance team for winning the state runner-up title in the Junior High Advanced Pom category. This is a very hard working group; besides balancing extracurricular activities, these girls all maintain all A and B grades scholastically. Way to go girls!
St. Mary Catholic Community School celebrated March Madness with a double elimination co-ed basketball tournament. Fourteen teams enjoyed competing in the 3-on-3 tournaments.

Postcards and books
Friends of the Crown Point Community Library will host a Postcard Presentation and Free Appraisals by Harley Sheets at 2:30 p.m. April 6 at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St.
Learn about the history and hobby of postcard collecting.
The Friends will also be hosting a one-day book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 at the library. Proceeds from the book sale allow the Friends of the Library to sponsor programs at the library for adults and children.
Chocolate egg sale
Today is Palm Sunday and begins the most holy week for Christians all over the world. Next Sunday, we celebrate Easter.
Don’t forget that the Crown Point Tri Kappa chocolate eggs are still available at more than 20 local businesses. Money from the sale of the eggs funds scholarships for graduating high school students.

Do you or a loved one suffer from Parkinson’s disease? Learn more about this disease when the NWI Parkinsons Inc. hosts its annual education symposium April 22.
The program will include a number of expert guest speakers covering the latest medication, treatments, memory issues, research, exercise and much more.
It begins at 8:15 a.m. with check–in at Avalon Manor 3550 U.S. 30, Hobart, and will continue until 2:30 p.m.
The cost is $20, or $35 per couple, including a care giver, family member or friend, and includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch.
