CROWN POINT | Employees of the former owners of St. Anthony hospital in Crown Point have been notified they are losing pensions.
Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance Inc. purchased the hospital from Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corp. in 1999. The action is affecting employees who worked for Franciscan Sisters before the sale.
"It is unfortunate to learn of the funding difficulties that the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corp. has experienced with the St. Anthony Medical Center Inc. Retirement Plan directly impacting those employees who were part of the plan prior to 1999," David Ruskowski, president of Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, said in a written statement released late Friday.
"We fully sympathize with these employees and want to assure them that the benefits they have accrued under the Franciscan Alliance Inc. Pension Security Plan after 1999 are well funded, secure and solvent," said Ruskowski, adding the two pension funds are separate.
