Jim McShane, a former St. John Township trustee, is seeking the Center Township trustee's job.
McShane is one of three contenders for the position vacated when Eldon Strong resigned as Center Township trustee to fill a vacant position on the Lake County Council.
Former Crown Point City Councilman Paul Bremer and current Center Township Advisory Board member Kate Webster earlier placed their names in contention for the trustee's job.
Center Township Republicans will elect a replacement trustee in a caucus set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St., Crown Point.
McShane was St. John Township trustee from 1995 to 1998. He has since moved to Center Township, he said.
His experience as a trustee and in workforce development and economic development, along with an advanced degree in public administration, help qualify him for the Center Township trustee's job, McShane said.
Bremer was a Crown Point city councilman for 25 years ending in 2007. He currently holds an appointed post on the city's Historic Preservation Commission.
Bremer said earlier he would keep the trustee's office operating in an efficient manner and would look out for all township residents.
Webster won a seat on the Center Township Advisory Board in 2010. The trustee position is "the closest form of government to the people for getting immediate help," Webster said earlier.
Strong, a Republican, resigned as trustee after being named by a Republican caucus in December to replace Rick Niemeyer as 7th District Lake County councilman. Niemeyer left the County Council to become a state representative.
