LAKES OF THE FOUR SEASONS | A security guard shack and a few nearby homes were evacuated Wednesday after a motorist hit and ruptured a gas line in Lakes of the Four Seasons, officials said.
No one was seriously hurt in the crash, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the main entrance of the gated community at 1048 Lakeshore Drive, Community Manager Rick Cleveland said.
Ty Korzeniewski, 52, of Lakes of the Four Seasons, was driving his 2004 Infinity out of the community when he swerved and ran into a parked LOFS squad car, Lake County sheriff's police said. The squad car was pushed into a gas line and a generator.
The guard shack and front entrance to the community were temporarily closed and traffic rerouted to other entrances while the gas line was repaired by NIPSCO, Cleveland said.
Cleveland said the cost of the repairs would be in the thousands of dollars. Replacement of the generator was estimated at $7,000.
