Authorities charged a Gary man with burglary in connection with a break-in at a Miller area pharmacy.
Police responding to an alarm at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fagen Pharmacy, 5001 E. Dunes Highway, allegedly found Alonzo Gardner inside the store, according to charging documents. Gardner was arrested at the scene, police said.
The glass front door of the business had been broken, police said.
A blood-stained, unopened bottle of vodka and a bag containing numerous cartons of cigarettes were located near where Gardner had been spotted inside the store, police said. Gardner's hands were bleeding, police said.
The cigarettes and liquor were identified by a store manager as having been removed from store shelves, police said.
Gardner was charged by the Lake County prosecutor's office with one count of burglary.
