Merrillville Adult Education will offer GED testing from 4:45 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and again Dec. 12 and 13 at Merrillville High School, 276 E. 86th Place, Merrillville.

The fee is $70 for the complete test and $14 per sub-test, payable in cash only. Registration is required at the Merrillville Adult Education Office, 6701 Delaware St., Merrillville Community School Corp. Administration Center, between the hours of 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Class size is strictly limited to 10 students.

Holiday For HEROS

The South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority is hosting a special event from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Indiana Welcome Center, the intersection of Interstate 80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South, Hammond, for all fire, police, military and Hoosier Helpers to say thank you for their service to our community and country.

The night of fun activities is open exclusively to police, fire, military forces and Hoosier Helpers and their families. Light refreshments will be served and attendees may take a free photo with Santa. There will be a station available to sit down and write a letter to military troops overseas. Bring your police, firefighter, military or Hoosier Helper ID to the event to gain entry.

Simply Amazing Market

Opportunity Enterprises Simply Amazing Market will host a Holiday Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the north side of Opportunity Enterprises main facility, 2801 Evans Ave., Valparaiso.

Visitors can enjoy product samples,enter into prize drawings, and take advantage of special sale items and a coupon for $5 off a purchase of $25 or more. The market also will offer free photos with Santa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

While shopping in the market, visitors also can stop by a Holiday Gift Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday featuring gifts from Avon, Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, Thirty-One, Willow House, Tupperware, Mary Kay, and Cookie Lee. Catalog orders will be accepted, and grab-and-go items, along with door prize giveaways, will be featured. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Opportunity Enterprises.
