CROWN POINT | A farm stand on Indiana Avenue is expected to be converted to a landscape and grass-cutting business under an agreement with Crown Point officials.

The Crown Point Board of Public Works and Safety approved altering a long-standing lease Wednesday with Gerald Scheeringa, who farms a nearby 16 acres of city-owned land.

Scheeringa no longer wants to operate the farm stand. Under new terms of his lease with the city, he will be permitted to sublease to the landscape business, City Attorney David Nicholls said.

The landscape business, which has not yet been named, has agreed to improve the farm stand building, Nicholls said.

Final terms of the lease are being prepared, Nicholls said.
