CROWN POINT | A Hammond man was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to felony battery and admitting he fled custody, officials said.
Carlos N. Silva pleaded guilty to Class C felony battery and failure to return to lawful detention as a Class D felony after leaving the hospital and not returning to police custody, according to a Lake County prosecutor's office news release.
Silva, 23, was taken into police custody in February and became sick, the release states.
He was treated at a nearby hospital and then fled and didn't return to police custody, officials said.
