CROWN POINT | The delayed trial of a Lakes of the Four Seasons man accused in a fatal hit-and-run that killed county jail Corrections Officer Britney Meux has been moved to the first week in December.

Jury selection for the trial of Jason Cozmanoff, 43, is set to begin the week of Thanksgiving, and attorneys will begin presenting evidence Dec. 2.

Cozmanoff pleaded not guilty to 12 felony counts of reckless homicide, criminal recklessness and failing to stop after an accident resulting in death and serious injury and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

The state alleges Cozmanoff was driving a GMC Yukon east on 93rd Avenue near Taft Street on March 6, 2012, when he struck Officers Britney Meux, David Murchek, Latasha Johnson and Delano Scaife as they jogged along the side of the road. Cozmanoff then fled the scene, police said.

Meux, 25, died from the impact.

Cozmanoff's estranged wife called to say Cozmanoff admitted he was the driver and officers matched broken car parts at the crash scene to a GMC Cozmanoff commonly drove, police said.

Lake Criminal Court Judge Salvador Vasquez postponed the trial, which was set to begin last week, after several more potential witnesses were discovered during jury selection.

A man in the jury pool told a court bailiff he saw the crash take place. He said he was serving a sentence at the Lake County Work Release Center, which sits just north of the crash scene and that as many as 30 others were looking out windows in the work-release center at the time.
